This place is quite lovely. A higher end but still affordable Mediterranean/middle eastern style restaurant. You you can do it small plates family style, and still have your own dish, but I do recommend sharing everything to get to try everything.

Dishes we had that I dug:
•Hummus “Mortar And Pestle”: with Tahini, Lemon, Roasted Garlic
•Crispy Cauliflower with Currants & Pine Nuts
•Grilled Marinated Octopus with Shaved Fennel, Sunflower Shoot & Seed Salad
•Boneless All Natural Half Chicken cooked “Under A Brick” with Israeli Couscous with Dried Apricots and Green Leeks, Gremolata Sauce
•Canteloupe Gazpacho with Almond Brittle, Jicama-Mint relish

Definitely check this place out.

The Meatball Shop

Definitely a staple, and now that they opened one in Williamsburg. It’s one of my favorites, the ambiance match the amazing food, and to top it off it’s a great cheap eat. It’s a very unique system to because it’s mostly build your own plate. They give you a menu with a marker and you choose your flavor of balls, sauce, and pasta/sides(under or on the side). The desert, is home made ice cream sandwiches. Essentially home made ice cream inside of home made cookies with at least 5 flavors of each to choose from. The Williamsburg location(170 Bedford Ave) has a full bar too, along with regular drinks, they have a choose it yourself menu that is pretty good as well.

My fave combo:
•Spicy Pork Meatballs with Spicy Meat Sauce over Simple salad or White Beans.(Spaghetti is great too)
•Simple Salad(Arugula & Apples)
•Steamed Spinach
•Sauteed Broccoli
•The meatball sandwiches are pretty rockin’ as well.

One other thing to note, be prepared for a 30min-1hour wait at prime dinner time(8PMish) but it’s worth it.

Alta

Alta is my favorite tapas joint in New York thus far. Your experience does depend on what you order though. The restaurant is feels a little mid-evil influenced in design with a lower level and a balcony of seats around the top sides. Quite a beautiful spot.

Here are my fave dishes and what I know to be a great experience:
•Fried Goat Cheese with lavender infused honey: One of the best on the menu. Hands down.
•Avocado Relleno with crabmeat & shrimp, frisee, and orange segments: Another fave on the menu.
•Carpaccio Of Beef horseradish créme frâiche foam, orange supremes: great dish
•Herded Goat Cheese & Artichoke Ravioli tomato water emulsion, preserved lemon, porcini oil
•Seared Sea Scallops Mangalista ham, white asparagus, lemon thyme dressing, pumpkinseed oil
•Crem Brulee: One of my fave creme brulee’s. Served bitesize in three small spoons.

Frankies 17 is a great little Italian spot in the lower east side of Manhattan. Great date spot if you’d like it to be. It feels like you’re in someone’s small quaint home getting a home cooked meal. Dimly lit and intimate. The food is excellent.

Some of my fave dishes:
•Cremini Mushroom & Truffle Oil: Amazing if you love truffle
•Arugula, Pecorino Romano, Frankies’ Olio Nuovo & Lemon
•Sweet Sausage, Roasted Red Pepper & Onion Over Creamy Polenta: Tasty little dish
•House-made Cavatelli with Faiccos Hot Sausage & Browned Sage Butter

Asia Dog

Asia Dog’s are awesome. I discovered them last year through my party planner Kat when I hired them to cater my book release party. They were only doing the open food markets around NY, but have since then opened a storefront. Mel & Steve are the creators of these Asian inspired hot dogs. They are basic hot dogs with Asian toppings, that result in dogs bursting with flavors. Check out the full menu.

My Faves of the ones I’ve tried:
•VINH: Vietnamese banh-mi style: aioli + pate + cucumbers + pickledcarrot and daikon + cilantro + jalapeno
•MEL & STEVE: Asian sesame slaw
•THE SYDNEY: Thai stylerelish with mango + cucumber + red onion +cilantro + crushed peanuts + fish sauce
